“Tarn Rig Beck” – Original Oil Painting on linen
An abstract impression of water, reflection, and movement, inspired by the Cumbrian fells
This painting began — as many of mine do — not in the studio, but beside a stream.
Tarn Rigg Beck is a place I return to often. Not always physically, but in memory, in brushstroke, in rhythm. It’s where water speaks in light, where reflections slip and reform, where colour is never still. That constant motion — of beck against stone, sky caught in flow, and earth breathing beneath it all — shaped every layer of this work.
Painted in thick, expressive oils, this piece pulses with movement. Turquoises and blues ripple through the surface, while greens and tart accents suggest foliage caught at the edges or light striking wet stone. It is both a landscape and a reflection of landscape — a moment in motion, held just long enough to feel it.
As an artist, I believe places hold stories. Tarn Rig Beck tells one — not directly, but in colour, texture, and the space between brushstrokes. It invites the viewer not only to see, but to listen.
This work is ready to hang with hanging fitments attached.
